We're planting 2020 trees for 2020!

19 February 2020

On Wednesday 19 February, we planted 500 trees in Milton Creek, Sittingbourne, launching our project to plant 2020 trees in 2020.

Optivo colleagues, local residents and representatives from Swale Borough Council and DS Smith supported the event to plant a mixture of oak and birch trees at the local country park.

Thankfully the weather was kind as everyone worked hard to dig holes, plant trees and stake them. A total of 500 trees were planted in just over three hours, a fantastic achievement that supports Optivo's aim to be a responsible business.

Nancy Cashford, Resident Involvement Officer said: "We've had a brilliant day planting trees along with local residents, it was fantastic to see children and adults getting stuck in. We wanted to do our bit to help create sustainable communities and reduce our environmental impact as we know this is a priority for our residents."

"We'll be holding more tree planting days later in the year to continue this great work."

Optivo's Chief Executive, Paul Hackett, supported the event and joined in with the tree planting. He said:

"It was great to see Optivo colleagues and residents planting the first 500 trees of the 2020 trees we'll plant in 2020. We're commited to doing our bit to tackle the climate emergency. Our new strategic plan sets challenging targets on our journey to achieve net-zero carbon."

Optivo is planning more events later in the year, if you know of a community space that would benefit from tree planting work please email: Nancy.Cashford@Optivo.org.uk
