Tackling loneliness and isolation – report launched!

07 February 2020

How can we overcome loneliness and isolation in our communities?

It’s a tough question which more than 600 Optivo residents have been trying to tackle over the past year.

They’ve now produced a report, with the support of our staff, which features their findings. It details the definitions of loneliness, the causes, and available solutions.

The Loneliness and Isolation report was officially launched at a special event at Westminster on Tuesday 28 January.

Angela Sharman, Forums Coordinator said: “It’s been such an exciting journey, working with hundreds of our residents. We’re now working with teams across Optivo to share our findings and implement our recommendations. A big thank you to all the residents and staff of Optivo who have helped us complete this project.

We launched regional forum events in January 2019 and asked residents to pick an issue they were passionate about tackling. They voted for ‘Loneliness and Isolation’.

The forums then met regionally throughout the next 12 months to explore this topic further. The input from these meetings was combined with the results of an online loneliness survey completed by around 600 residents.

Residents and staff then worked together to record clearly defined, achievable recommendations.
