Local resident helping to deliver 63 news homes in Battle
Local resident helping to deliver 63 news homes in Battle
16 March 2021
A local resident is helping to deliver 63 new homes in Battle.
Construction is well underway to build a mix of houses and bungalows for affordable rent, Shared Ownership and open market sale at
Tollgate Green, to the rear of Claverham Way.
Battle resident Josh Sidders has been employed as a trainee plumber at the site to help deliver the much-needed homes for housing provider Optivo.
The 17-year-old’s previous work placement had been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Optivo’s Employment Support Team worked closely with Josh to help build his confidence, interview skills and fully complete his CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
In December 2020, he was offered a job with contractor GME Group and is continuing to thrive in his new role.
Naomi Mileham, Employment Support Manager at Optivo,
said:
“We’re so proud of Josh and it’s fantastic to see a local resident building local homes. Josh has a great work ethic, is very talented, and just needed a little support to further his career. I’m very happy we’ve been able to help gain a great job outcome for him.”
Josh said:
“Optivo were very helpful in the process. They helped me to get in contact with people on site, which eventually led to working for GME. GME tick every box when it came to my expectations. I’ve learnt so much and everyone who works there is very helpful and willing to help me learn. Overall, my experience has been perfect and I can’t wait to keep working and learning with them!”
Samantha Skinner, Head of HR and Operations at GME Group, said:
“We are proud to support and promote the work of Optivo assisting local residents into paid employment, especially during these difficult times.”
The first phase of homes at Tollgate Green are due to complete this summer, with a completion date for all homes set for Spring 2022.
