Employability Day – Enhancing lives through Jobs and Training

28 June 2018

It’s Employability Day! A chance to showcase the great work being done to help jobseekers gain and progress in work.

We have a dedicated Employment team who have helped hundreds of residents.

We’ve built partnerships with employers, local authorities and job centres which enables us help you access jobs across London, Sussex, the Midlands and Kent.

We also work with training providers and experts across the sector to help you boost your skills, including interview technique, CV and application writing.

Abigail's story

Abigail wanted to stand out from the crowd when applying for a job.

And with our help she’s certainly done that!

Abigail had an outdated CV which was very lengthy. Our team helped to create a new CV which was much easier to use. We also lined up a number of job opportunities.

She’s now a Customer Accounts Assistant and is very much looking forward to the future.

Abigail said: “I nearly cried – I was so happy when they offered me the role. It was the best news ever. Whitney (from our Social Impact Team) really helped me with my CV. She sent so many (job) opportunities which I hadn’t seen, increasing my chance of finding employment.”

Helping Martin

Martin says he has a top end CV “which amazes managing directors” after receiving help from our Employment team.

We also spoke to Martin, who is currently studying Accounting Level 3 at college, about employability skills and volunteering opportunities.

It filled him with confidence when going for a job interview – which he got!

Martin now has an accountancy volunteering role and does cleaning work around his course.

Carol's journey

A “whole world of opportunity” opened to Carol when she found support through us and joined the Love London Working programme.

Life had been “very hard” for Carol beforehand; she felt low about her career prospects, was claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) and struggling to find work.

Carol was given one-to-one support to work out the career path she wanted to take, and her confidence started to build as she saw light at the end of the tunnel.
With a clearer picture of what Carol wanted to achieve, staff on the Love London Programme spoke to different employers.

Her advisor had been working with HATS (Healthcare and Transport Services) – one of the UK’s leading specialist transport service providers – who had a job opportunity as a Passenger Assistant.
The Love London Working team thought this was the ideal position for Carol and arranged and prepared her for an interview.

Carol’s enthusiasm impressed HATS so much that they immediately agreed to enrol her on their Safer Recruitment Programme!
She’s now responsible for the safe transit, to and from school, of young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Describing the support she received from us, Carol added: “It’s fantastic to see they (Optivo) provide their residents with employment support to help them through hard times.”

Love London Working is funded by the European Social Fund.
