A royal celebration

More than 85 residents of Cheyham Park Independent Living scheme in Cheam attended a special Jubilee celebration day on 24 May.

Amanda Whitlock, Scheme Manager worked with a team of colleagues and residents to arrange the event, marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The highlight of the day was the royal guest appearance by a very special visitor! Julie Frost, resident of Bethell Court, dressed up as the Queen and was even accompanied by police officers from the Sutton Neighbourhood Team acting as her ‘security’.

Queen.JPGJulie launched the event with a short speech and ribbon cutting, then residents enjoyed a host of games and refreshments, all with a royal theme.

Julie said: “It was an honour to be Queen for the day, I did enjoy it. Some of my neighbours here at the scheme are still bowing to me when I walk past! The Optivo team worked so hard to get ready for the event. Amanda made sure we all enjoyed our day, it was excellent. “

Activities on the day included a tin can alley, bowling and darts. The scheme was decorated in red, white and blue and residents appreciated the delicious afternoon tea.

Prizes were awarded for the best outfits on the day, with winners Joan and Leon being commended for their efforts.
