Fly tipping

We want to help you keep your estate looking great, a place you want to live. Dumping rubbish (known as fly-tipping) is not only illegal, but it’s also ugly and creates a negative impression of our estates.

We can then take action to remove it from your neighbourhood and look to pass the costs involved onto the perpetrators.

Fly-tipping: top facts

  • We don’t need CCTV proof to prosecute someone who fly-tips. If we have reason to believe they’re responsible, we can pass that information onto the environmental health department
  • Your service charge does NOT cover the cost of disposing of large items of rubbish. If we have to remove a lot of bulky waste, like garden rubble or sofas, we will have to increase your service charge to pay for this
  • Anyone caught illegally dumping waste faces an on-the spot penalty of up to £400
  • Fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence which carries a fine of up to £50,000 (unlimited if the case goes to the Crown Court) or an offender can even be sent to prison.

What to do with bulky rubbish?

  • If you’re thinking of buying a large item like a fridge or a mattress, check beforehand if the company will take the old one away for a small fee
  • Your local council will also take away large items for a fee. Please go to your local council's website for more details about how you can correctly dispose of items you don't need anymore and report fly-tipping to your local authority
  • You can also donate items to Freecyle, an online forum offering a chance to give or collect used items for free from your local area. Membership is free so why not sign up today? Visit the Freecycle website here.
