The event, at the venue in Altyre Road, Croydon, on Saturday (9 March) highlighted some of the superb work of women living and working in our communities.

There were a range of guest speakers including Monica Barnes, Vice Chair of our Resident Scrutiny Group and involved resident Abigail Ashmeade. Both gave inspiring speeches on the power of women to make a difference.

The day was hosted by comedian, Njambi McGrath, she shared her own experiences of working in a male dominated industry.

Local Councillor, Judy Rogers, spoke of her journey into politics and how she feels she is making a difference in her community.

Optivo staff member, Jennifer Bates, talked about the Women@Work group who support female colleagues within the organisation through a range of initiatives and help vulnerable women in local communities.

The day was also a chance for residents to catch up with each other and enjoy a range of workshops on topics such as wellbeing and success. And a fabulous hot buffet lunch of world foods kept everyone going!

Involved resident, Margaret Ashmeade, said: “I’ve really enjoyed today; it was a great event and I’ve met a lot of people here. It’s so good to show that with equal opportunities women can achieve more. It’s been great to find out how Optivo is helping women, empowering them and giving them more opportunities in the work place to make their working environment more successful. I’m already looking forward to next year!”
